Upon departure, you’ll head towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains, ascending the renowned Tichka Pass (7412ft / 2260 m). Don’t forget to capture the breathtaking scenery with photo stops along the winding mountain roads. Your journey will include a visit to the remarkable Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its cinematic history, having served as a backdrop for numerous movies.

Continuing along, you’ll go through Ouarzazate and travel approximately 70 km to the quaint village of Tamnougalt, nestled just beyond the former French stronghold of Agdz. Tamnougalt holds a pivotal place in history as a vital trading post along caravan routes, linking the Sahara Desert with Marrakech and beyond. Step into the kasbah’s storied chambers and immerse yourself in its rich history, envisioning the bustling activity of merchants, travelers, and nomads who once walked these corridors.

Tamnougalt stood as the final stop before the desert and the gateway out of its sandy embrace, welcoming and bidding farewell to caravans on their desert journeys. The meticulously preserved Tamnougalt Kasbah offers a window into this important time period in Morocco.

You’ll bid farewell to Tamnougalt as you embark on your journey to the Great Sahara Desert. Just a short distance from Tamnougalt, you’ll travel through Nkob, a quaint village renowned for its 45 kasbahs dotting the landscape.

Continuing along the road, you’ll pass through Tazaraine, recognized as the filming location for Babel. Further along, the village of Elnes awaits, celebrated for its rich fossil heritage. Finally, you’ll arrive at the small town of Rissani, steeped in history as the ancestral home of the Alaouite Dynasty, the royal family of Morocco. Rissani’s bustling market, held twice weekly, and its unique donkey parking add to its charm.

Soon after departing from Rissani, your journey off the beaten path begins towards the majestic Erg Chebbi Dunes.

About an hour later, you will be near the amazing dunes.

This morning will be spent out in the desert where you’ll enjoy various adventures such as: sand boarding, meeting nomadic families, enjoying a cooking class, learning to play drums, and more. You’ll also have a chance to observe the guys performing at Khamlia, an NGO focused on the preservation of Ganoua music.

Later in the day, you’ll arrive at the meeting point to board camels. You’ll trek through the highest dunes in the Sahara Desert where you can climb to the top to watch the sunset, if you like. Afterwards, you’ll continue on to the luxury desert camp where you’ll have dinner and enjoy drumming around the fire.

Today, after leaving the desert you’ll get to see the aquifers just beyond the city of Arfoud a portion of an ancient irrigation system.

When passing through the village of Tinjdad, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Berber museum. You’ll learn a little of Berber history and daily life long ago.

Later in the day, your journey leads you through the captivating Todgha Gorges where you’ll stop for a nice walk. Next, you’ll enter the Dades Valley and Gorges.

Shortly after leaving the Dades Gorges, you’ll enter the Valley of the Roses, situated at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains. The main village is Kelaat M’Gouna. Shortly thereafter you will enter the Skoura Valley, a fertile oasis lined with palm groves, olive trees, and the ruins of kasbahs dating back to the 12th century.

In the morning, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Amridil Kasbah that dates back to the 1600s. Inside the kasbah, you’ll see an astonishing array of artifacts that describe Berber daily life approximately 400 years ago. From the rooftop, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the Skoura Valley.

After leaving Amridil Kasbah, you head in the direction of Ouarzazate. After passing through Ouarzazate you will turn off onto a small road that will lead you through the beautiful Ounila Valley.

The Ounila Valley is a lush oasis of palm groves dotted with crumbling kasbahs and small Berber villages. The people living here are very hospitable and love to see foreign guests. Here you will visit Telouet Kasbah, the former seat of the powerful family ​​El Glaoui.

After lunch, you’ll drive through the beautiful Atlas Mountains until you slowly descend back into the city of Marrakech.
